About Us

Hello and Welcome! My name is Elodie Roger, I am the founder and owner of Origins Environmental Services. We provide services in riparian ecosystems restoration and enhancement.

At Origins Environmental Services we care about our community, nature and its biodiversity. We bring our passion, knowledge and experience to support our partners and clients in restoring, enhancing, and monitoring their riparian areas and ecosystems.

With nature as our greatest teacher, we believe it is our responsibility to restore habitats that have been damaged and impacted by natural or anthropogenic pressures. We address climate change and build resilience using non-invasive, organic and natural material.

We approach our work using an interdisciplinary lens to create tangible as well as economically viable solutions. We apply principles of biology, ecology and bioengineering to restoring riparian ecosystems’ functions.

We consult, manage, and coordinate projects while delivering fieldwork with passion and technical expertise.

Our Projects

Project1

Landslide Mitigation and Erosion Control

We supported our clients in mitigating landslide risks and improving bank stability. We developed solutions to landslide recovery and mitigation using an interdisciplinary approach. We assessed risks and safety concerns associated with the collapse of shoreline and revegetated their coastal bluff using native species and bioengineering techniques.

Project2

Twinned-Watershed Project

We worked closely with Cowichan Watershed Board and Cowichan Tribes to assess riparian habitat health along the Chemainus and Koksilah rivers (BC). The riparian vegetation assessment integrated the cultural significances of the place with current condition of riparian ecosystems adjacent to important fish-bearing reaches. This project brought forward the concept of “whole-of-watershed” approach when identifying and implementing conservation and natural resources management priorities.

Testimonials

KevinWestick

Elodie was instrumental in designing solutions to the specific problems we have on our site. She was able to combine a number of different strategies, from new plantings to live staking and interwoven fencing and terracing which have already shown significant benefits. What we are most happy about is the solutions provided were all natural and designed toward bringing the riparian area back to a more natural state, which we feel is the best long-term method of dealing with the erosion issues.
